In 1952, Rene Ramillon set up the company that gave life to the celebrated down jacket. These where quickly noticed by Lionel Terray, one of France’s most famous climbers, for their potential and from that point onwards, the jackets were used in many famous expeditions across the world.
By the 1980s, Moncler jackets began to gain great acclaim in the fashion industry and began to be produced in yellow, blue, orange and green. By the late eighties, Chantal Thomass collaborated with Moncler and the once more functionally orientated jackets became ever more aligned with high end fashion, with the addition of buttons instead of zips and fur trimmings and other transformations such as reversible fabrics and satin.
The brand hasn’t looked back, Moncler jackets still retain the all enveloping warmth they were once famed for, but have huge dashes of fashion and aesthetics laced in, as is clearly evident in the drawstring waists and ribbed padding that accentuate femininity.
