Joseph Ettedgui 1936 – 2010

Designer Joseph Ettedgui launched his eponymous ready-to-wear label in 1983 following the global success of his London-based designer boutiques, Ettedgui, the son of a French-Moroccan furniture retailer, came to London from Casablanca in the late Fifties and trained as a hairdresser, he met Kenzo in  the 1960s whose brightly-coloured sweaters he started to sell in his King's Road salon. Before long, the clothes had eclipsed the hairdressing, and Joseph's first shop was established below the salon in the early Seventies. Quiet revolutionary clothes that all women loved, he held the key to what women wanted to wear. His black bootcut trousers were the most flattering money could buy. His knits, part of the Joseph Tricot range, were superb in their quality and his beautifully cut jackets became wardrobe classics.  He will be greatly missed but his legacy lives on in the sharp tailoring and directional fashion that is synonymous with the Joseph name.
